First post here. I have been lurking here for a few weeks now and just taking in chatter from fellow hunters. I'm relative new to turkey hunting with only a couple of toms under my belt. In my area of Minn, turkeys hunting is less than 10 years. The population has grown quite rapidly and I'm fortunate to have turkeys on my property. I didnt get picked for a license this year which bummed me out. But was able to buy a license at the tail end of the turkey season which arent part of the lottery. The seasons consist of a 5 day time slot and if your lucky, the time period will include a weekend, some don't. Which doesn't give hunters a lot of hunting time. Anyway I have spent a lot of time in the woods and saw quite a few turkeys. Plus had a great time with my camera. But I have to wait until Tuesday before my season starts.
Now for my question. I purchased a aluminum pot call with a laminate striker. The pot call never needs sanding or roughing up of any kind. But as far as the striker goes, how often does laminate need to be touched up? I can tell after a while of calling that the striker will slide on the call and not make noise or the noise it does make, wouldn't appear to be favorable to a turkey. I dont want to wreck the striker by over sanding if its not necessary. I'm just not that familiar with these calls and I'm still a beginner with turkey hunting. Thanks
