Just bought a new 870 sps 3 1/2" turkey/predator with a TruGlo red dot already mounted. Got it at BPS for 500$. A pretty good price I thought. Now the testing starts. I am a heavy shot believer and I have liked the mag blend but am willing to try them all. I am sure there are a few of these rigs out there.  Any recommendations on where to start with chokes and loads?

Try hevi 3 -2-6, with the HD choke that came with it, my sps did pretty good with it.

Mine shot hv13 7s 3 inch really well out of the factory choke pattern was so good I didn't Eben try my jellyhead out yet I got mine a week before season so I didn't have time to try a bunch of different combos out gonna really work on it this summer how do u like it so far I believe there's still a 30 rebate on that gun also

Thanks for the input guys. I like the feel of it but I haven't shot it yet. Yeah the thirty dollar rebate helped me pull the trigger on buying it. I notice you guys are mainly shooting 3". Do u find they pattern better than 3.5"? I know that was the case with my old gun. This time I was hoping to find some good patterning 3.5 to take advantage of pellet count. I will deff try the factory choke. I'm thinking I might try it with some of the federal HW since its not ported and should be ok with that wad. I'll let ya know.

I haven't tried any 3 1/2 yet I had a few boxes of 3 from my other 870 so I tried them I'm really happy with the numbers I got I may try shooting some this summer

I have a couple 870 sps's and I'm shooting the 3" Magblends out of mine. I tried the HD choke, along with a Kick's, Jellyhead .665, Indian Creek, and an old Stardot. The Indian Creek and Stardot patterned the best out of my guns so those are the ones I'm shooting. I'm getting anywhere from 170s to 200s out of those combos with 3" Magblends.

The 3 inch hevi will pattern better than lead 3.5. I have hevi 3.5-2.25-#7's I'm gonna pattern once I'm out of the 3's. I went with the 3s because they were on sale. Once I patterned them I said wow, no need for the 3.5s yet, I'll wait until I'm out of the 3s.

Update:  I got 202 pellets in the 10" at 35 yards (limit of my backyard range), with 3" mag blend and the factory Remington choke. I'm sure the count would drop at 40yds but it looked pretty good. Better yet I killed my first turkey with the gun yesterday. I really like the red dot sight and not having to worry about getting your head down and perfectly aligned on the barrel.
