Why not more bowhunters?

I have noticed that alot of guys that are hardcore bowhunters for deer often put the bow down and pick up the shotgun when turkey season rolls around.  For the guys here that bowhunt but opt to hunt turkeys with the gun, whats the reason?  Too difficult?  Too boring?

Just curious why more people dont bowhunt for turkeys..

For me, I don't like sitting in a blind all day. I like the option of being able to move around. With a bow I could go years without killing one, unless I sat blinds.

I am one of those hardcore bowhunters for deer and have often thought after i fill my first tag i would take the bow and never have in all these years. There is just something about shooting a gobbler in the face with a shotgun that keeps me grabbing the scattergun every time!

Love the bow for whitetails....

But, I have no desire to sit in blinds and shoot turkeys over decoys in fields with a bow nor can I reconcile the idea of  spooking many birds without a blind just for a single shot opportunity.

I have the highest level of respect for those that kill birds regularly with a bow and no blind.  It is certainly the pinnacle of achievement in turkey hunting.

Something about the sharp blast of a shotgun and the crumpling sight of a Longbeard when he takes it in the face that I never get sick of.

I agree with these guys. Ive killed a few birds with a bow, but i feel a turkey was just created to be shot with a shotgun.

I agree with this. I've killed 4 turkeys with my bow and none were out of a blind. The last one I shot with my bow ran off with a broken wing and I never found it. It was for sure coyote bait. Not doing that again. I'll stick to my Hevi #7's.

takes the action part(fun part) of hunting turkeys out of the equasion. Hard to run around and reset up move on a bird with a bow.

For me it is about making more memories with my Win. 1300. I love this gun and only use it for turkeys.  My dad bought it for me when I was 16 and he has now passed. I will use it until it no longer works.

In my mind, about the toughest challenge for a spring gobbler hunt would be to do it with a traditional style bow, using  no decoys or pop-up blinds, hunting in the woods..no fields or pastures and on hard pressured land.

I do all that on very rare occasions...99.9% of the time I'm going to be using no. 6's.
