About a month ago, I received permission to hunt a 200 acre piece of property that is primarily used for Cattle grazing. I was hunting near the back edge of the property this morning and observed a flock of approx 10-12 birds in a neighboring field.
I moved through the woods to get into position and began making a few soft clucks and yelps. The flock immediately lit up and started moving in my direction. The birds closed the gap by moving at least 100 yards towards my position when I heard BOOM.... BOOM.................BOOM. The flock scattered in all directions except towards me and disappeared the rest of the morning.
I watched the fudd hunter step out of his blind and walked out into the field where the birds were standing. It was hard to say for sure, but I counted his steps as he walked which put him about 70 paces from where the shots were fired. He walked around, shook his head and returned to his blind without a bird. I'm not sure what this idiot was thinking, but he certainly ruined my opening morning.
The birds roost on a neighboring piece of property, but are known to visit a silage pile that's located on the property I have permission to hunt. How long before these birds regroup and get back to normal? I'm hoping they visit the silage pile this evening before returning to the roost.
