I see a lot of talk about Roosting, but i dont think i get it? is it simply using a owl hoot or a crow call to identoify a roost location? is that called roosting?
Also, People mention large white pine being a roosting tree, I too have two large white pine that they have been roosting in, about 4-5 hundred yards apart. Is this the most common type of tree used for roosting in the Northeast. Do they typically roost in the same trees year after year?

It can be going out in the evening using locater calls to locate gobblers that are on the limb for the night, or using hen calls in the late afternoon to try to get them to fly up in a certain area. Roost trees will be more consistent in less wooded areas, or areas with few tall trees. I have had little to no luck roosting birds down here in Louisiana. I found that they will change roost trees often but will roost in the same general area year after year.
