Tough week of hunting in KY!!!
April 19, 2012, 09:11:25 PM
Well, we just got home a few minutes ago. Despite tons of hunting pressure and severly henned up birds, I did manage to kill a decent gobbler monday morning (the only one taken out of the 5 of us). Dad and I should have killed two more yesterday but things just didn't work out.
On a brighter note, all 5 of us treathed our clothing in Permethrin and not one single tick was discovered the entire trip. Last year, my buddies were pulling them off after every hunt.

Looks like a pig! What are his stats? Hope you scored him and got photos for the contest. Congratulations!

He was a pretty nice two year old...21lbs, 10" beard and 7/8" spurs.

The gobblers are locked down with hens big time out there. They would gobble on the roost but then totally clam up when they hit the groud. We worked a couple of birds on weds. that we should have killed. The first one was within shooting range but just over a knoll where dad couldn't see him. A hen showed up...I tried to get her fired up...she started to work in but left taking lover boy with her. Got on to a couple mouthy birds later in the morning. We had a hour and a half stand-off making several set-up changes on them...they gobbled 200+ times but wouldn't advance. I don't know if there was a gulley or something that they wouldn't cross? We were right on the border of the National Forest land and they were on private ground so we couldn't get any closer to them. Another thing that was different out there was hunting just the big woods areas and not being able to get to the fields like I'm used to here in NY. The hunting should be great out there in a week or so when the hunting pressure dies down and the hens start nesting. I'm thinking maybe dad and I will try Kansas next spring.
