New Turkey Rig!
April 20, 2012, 10:30:20 AM
I bought a new Rem 870 turkey gun last year... my first pump gun, thought I could get used to it. I ended up not liking it that much ..so I sold it. Wanted to get a new sportsman 11-87 ... but couldn't find it anywhere at the time. Plus I wasn't excited about spending $750 when I have a basic REM 11-87 12GA already just sitting around collecting dust. So I was thinking ... maybe I should just upgrade my existing 11-87 that I have already? After all that gun won't be doing anything but laying around.... I have a different 11-87 20 ga I use for smaller birds already.
So I decided to invest a few hundred into the old 11-87 12ga ... happy with the way it turned out. I added the shurshot stock, nice sling, metal truglo sights and new HEVI choke. It has a 26in barrel , 3in.

That's a good looking gun and it looks like you're ready.
Thanks,

Gun looks good. I too took my 11-87 and added a Sureshot stock, replacing the basic wood stock. Mine was already matte black, but after this spring, I'm going to get a Dura-Coat kit and paint it. Not sure what color(s) yet, but it may end up all black again.
How's that Hevi choke shooting for you?

I haven't tried the new HEVI choke..but Clark and many others said before it produced real good numbers with similar set ups... So I thought I should try it. I should be able to report some numbers in the next few weeks after I shoot it.
