anybody lengthened the forcing cone on their 835?

anybody?  if so, any difference in anything?  mainly wondering if felt recoil went down any and if the patterns were evened out.  im not worried about getting tighter, but more about evening it all up a touch.  im thinking about getting mine worked, but wanted to know who has had it done and who does it.

I ask a general question like that regarding another type gun. SumToy does it for $35 and he an OG member and has a website. He explained you needed it only if you wanted recoil reduction or had a bad pattern problems. Some other members stated it help with their pattern. Hope this helps.

ive heard of sumtoy...may give him a go if he can do it for me.  ive talked to a buddy of mine today..tim sandfrd, and he had one done and he said he noticed a difference.  i would love to try and reduce recoil and hope to improve on the patterns.  i just kinda want it done for the heck of it if ya know what i mean!

I don't think your going to get much of an answer here for one the .775 overbored barrel to begin with on the 835's seems to shoot plenty good already.  From what I hear, there is not much of a forcing cone on these  .775 bore barrels to begin with.  So how much would you gain to try and make the bore even bigger that .775 and then the shot going back to a .775 bore again.  In theory I would say it may work.  But I'm not messing with my barrel to find out.

Gunsmiths have told me that there is little to no advantage due to the oversized barrel already.  I wouldn't think I'd mess with it if I were you.

AGREED. if your gonna do any kind of work to it I would get it deep cleaned. Even then it should put up good numbers for u. Mine isn't deep cleaned and im putting up 300+ numbers

Neo....never had a pattern problem.  Its a 29" bbl and will shoot with any out there.  I never had a problem until I deep cleaned/polished.  My patterns went south.  I was just mainly wanting to do it and see what happens.  I may look more into it.  If I could help even ip the pattern some then its we'll worth it.   Rob Roberts talks highly of it.   Knocking little holes in paper is fun, but its killing turkeys that counts.

I had Sumtoy redue mine in my Benelli. The previous gun smith in north ga was suppose to do it and didn't do a proper job. He is a nice guy to.

300 plus you dont fix what is not broken.  You got to man up and shoot.

i had my done on a 935 and it seemed to open the pattern up kind of took the center core out of the pattern my experience i wouldnt have it done again

I had the forcing cone lengthened in my Remington 870 a few years ago. I think it cuts down on the stray pellets a little. Seems like there arent as many odd balls way over to the side of the cardboard, but I am not sure that it gives you a dramatically tighter pattern. I doubt I would do another gun.

There is almost no forcing cone in an 835 barrel to ease and lengthen as there is.   I was gonna have mine done years ago...until all five of the gunsmiths I talked to told me it wasn't needed and could in fact do more harm than good.  One of them has built a couple rifles for me that I have used in 1000 yards shoots and he worked the triggers on more than one shotgun for me...
