I had a very early model 835 that had a very stiff safety. It was difficult to move back to the safe position from the fire position, which scared the hell out of me. It was really tough when my hands were cold. I would lube the heck out of it just prior to hunting and repeat each year. It helped but was still stiff.

Bought a new 835 last summer. It was stiff but has gotten better with time and usage.

They tend to get a little better with ago. Mine is 15 years old and still a little stiff. But it is my backup gun now anyways.

Mine works fine and did from the box. Kind of like cars each one is a little different I guess.

Got my nephew a 500 last year and the safety was rough and hard to push... I took it apart and the detent spring ball was missing. Called mossberg and they said send the gun in and they would fix, I said send me the ball and they said "nope" its a safety issue... So I ordered one from brownells and works great now.
