OK, I'm going to show my ignorance.  I'm new at this.  What are the differences/advantages of glass versus crystal versus aluminum calls?  If you had to pick one, which would it be?

Crystal is higher pitched than glass and costs more. Not sure the difference in sound is worth the added cost. Aluminum is raspier.  My personal goto hunting pot is a Glen Marrer glass over slate.

Of the 3 mentioned, I would go with glass or aluminum.  I would be more specific and encourage you to get an anodized aluminum rather than the silver surfaced aluminum.  The surface is easier to clean/condition and the sound is more realistic than the raw, silver aluminum.  Glass makes a good calling surface.  I prefer the bronzed glass and like mine bead blasted.  There are differring opinions on bead blasted glass, but amounts to personal preference.

The difference of the 3 glass surfaces are sorted by the clear sharpness of the calls sound. Bronze glass, Crystal, Plain glass, the Bronze glass has the clearest/sharpest sound of the 3, Crystal has the better volume of the 3. All 3 play just fine, but that's the biggest difference between them, blasted glass is a whole nother story, it has a flatter sound to it, not as clear as a non-blasted glass does. In aluminums the anodized has the sharpest/cleaner sound to it, the plain alum. had a bit deeper sound to it, and the blasted alum. has about the same sound to it, but is easier to play.

Aluminum. It is Super loud and has a high nasally front end like a real hen, but you can play it soft. My second choice would be crystal, then glass.
