A buddy called and said he and his kid were not having luck so I said pick me up at 5:15. We hit the green field where I have been seeing birds and were ready by 6:00. At 6:20 2 toms start hammering 80 yards away. The gobbled for 20 minutes and had hens in the trees with them. I could see a few hens, but not the toms. They flew down and stated walking toward the field and my decoys (Jake moble, 2 hens) They got to the wood line and gobbled one more time. They were about 30 yards from the blind and stopped and turned around. I told the kid to shoot. Well he let one fly and the toms took off. The hens in the trees flew the other way. We sat there for 30 minutes as the toms circled around gobbling to get the hens back and we never saw them again. When we asked the kid what happened, he said,"I don't know, I had my eyes closed." I thougth my buddy was going to kill him on the spot. He said when he shoots he closes his eyes because the gun scares him.
The one thing I don't get is why they did not strut in the field or come closer to the Jake decoy. They must have seen him move a little in the blind, but I thougth they would run right in and kick some tail.
