Headed out this morning with my dad to some land we lease near my house. Had a bird fire up about 7:20 am, he gobbled at some owls that were carryin' on down in the swamp. Found a decent spot to set up although he didn't gobble much early on. Some crows flew over and he finally gobbled and I could tell he was on the ground. He wasn't gobbling at any calling and after finally breaking out a box call is when he cracked. He was on ridge top that was about 150 yds from me when we started calling. After a little calling and some silent treatment around 45 minutes later I finally see him. He eases along coming just the way I hoped he would. He walked a little bit and blow up and then gobble. He got to within 60 to 70 yds from and struts a little and gobbles every once in a while for about 10 minutes then heads off the other way gobbling and strutting along the way. Well, I figured Id ease up and cirlce him once he got out of sight, well a deer had other plans. There was a deer started blowing somewhere in front of me and that turkey took off scared to death. After that pisser we tried to work one more bird but he didn't want to play. Maybe tommorrw, it's suppose to be windy as heck and a good round of heavy rain just moved through so I'm sure they'll be good and messed up in the morning. >:(

Glad you were in them.  Keep after them, you will bust one soon!  Good Luck and be safe!

Had almost the same exact thing happen to me opening morning. Birds gobbled like crazy in the swamp. They came up out of the swamp and right up a ridge. Well those jokers wouldn't come back down and just gobbled their heads off! I have no idea why they wouldn't come on in. here is the video if you haven't seen it from the general forum

I had the camera rolling but he came in so fast after I blew the gobble call I couldn't get it turned right to get him on camera. I had it angled down from a tree and it got me shooting and my buddy and I running out yelling we were so excited. He's actually my pastor from my church and we hunting land he had permission to hunt. He had told Me I could shoot but I wasn't expecting to see anything there. I was yelling that I loved him for letting me shoot! I just get too fired up on these birds! I love it! i'll try to post the video later. It was so funny. We have laughed and laughed this afternoon after watching the video!

I was so excited that I almost fell when I shot my bird.  Ask dirt road ninja, I had to set my gun down to keep from dropping it.  I jumped in the air and then we were fist bumping and everything!
