How are the Osceolas reacting to calling?

O.k. it's been a few weeks of hunting now in Florida. How are the gobblers reacting to: mouth calls, raspy or not? Slate? Glass? Alum? Box? Tube? Who's had the most success on which call?  Calling aggressive or soft? Coming to hen, jake or gobbler dekes?

Thanks.

They are acting like they always do. No different this season. I like raspy calls, and the birds seem to react well to them. I've had success with slate and glass. Don't own an aluminum pot. Box calls work good, especially when the wind picks up. Diaphragms work well too. I've had success on all those calls.
As far as dekes and style of calling, I vary that according to the situation and the time of the season. There's no one stock answer for that question. I try to mimic what sounds I am hearing from the turks. If they are quiet, I am too. If they are ripping it up, so do I. Early season is great for male dekes of any kind. Later in the season I scale back the number of dekes, and use female only. :anim_25:

We have killed 5 the past 5 days in central florida and birds have been hunted heavy every day (season opened the 15th)
First day two fell to a hooks executioner 2. Second day bird fell to that also.  Third day and birds were already calling fraud on a lot of calling due to all the wanna be turkey hunters who only ride roads and call near vehicle

Fourth day one fell to a high pitched box after he ran from numerous hunters yelping earlier that morning

Today was a fly down with a cap and clucks and purrs on a slate. Every hunter around us has been yelping up a storm and the turkeys are already making wide berths around loud yelping
They learn quick but so do we.

Been an incredible trip for us. Hunting one more morn and hope my dad can finish his limit. I won't be yelping to any bird the first hour of hunting

I hope you didn't start hunting on the 15th. Our season didn't start until the 17th!!
Sounds like a lot of pressure. You guys hunting public land? Either way, public or private, 5 in 5 days is phenomenal!! :icon_thumright:

In my area of Florida they are not hot yet. They are gobbling on the roost and get quiet when they hit the ground.

Blah, I meant the 17th. We got here the 15th. Finished up today so we went 6 in 6 days
Locals must be pissed at us because they flooded us this morning.we turned around and went to another spot we found scouting and got on 2 lonely 2 year olds
Same thing as yesterday
. Fly down then clucks and purrs on a slate did the trick
