Unseasonably Warm Weather Effects?????
March 22, 2012, 10:40:12 AM
I am from Iowa and the spring seems to be about a full month ahead of where it usually is up here! The trees and grass are all green and starting to bud and it already looks like it would be a month from now when I hunt during second season. I feel that when I finally get to hunt everything will be grown out and visibility will be terrible. What effect will this have on the birds? Thanks for any help.

I'm interested in hearing some knowledgeable responses to this inquiry, as well. I'm in OH and seeing the same thing. I've always heard that turkey breeding and activity depends more on the length of day than seasonal weather patterns.
Pass it on...

I have hunted the late seasons in WI (as a non resident thats all I get) and not had a problem even with the trees in full leaf out.
I have had good responses as late as Memorial Day Weekend.
I have seen and heard Turkeys gobbling and strutting into middle June.
You might have to change some of your set-ups but Turkeys are going to keep at it.
It might make your hunt better because the weather will be better.

None. They dont go by the weather. The gobblers get a little more antsy but the hens know when its time.

there will be some good nesting cover this spring. May also be able to get in a little tighter on a bird without getting busted.

I'm more worried about it getting too hot towards the end the season. That shuts up the birds around here fast.

agree with the last two posts..
more worried about it being 80-90 in May not that its 70's in March
also ticks, mosquitoes, nats and everything else will be swarming in droves
