New 935 Grand Slam Turkey

I'm sure this has been discussed on here before, but i just got a 935 with the 22" barrel. Please give me some opinions on chokes and loads.

First of all, welcome to OG. We're glad you're here and look forward to hearing more from you.

I'd recommend that before anything else, you "deep clean" the bore and then pull the trigger group and clean the excess grease and oil from it. That will help ensure the reliable performance of your gun and help you get better patterns.

That short barrel can present some "challenges" but as long as you're looking for good turkey killing patterns, it can be done.

I am seeing good patterns, as are my readers, from both the Hevi-13 Turkey Choke and the SSX in those guns. They are quite different designs but both work well.

The hands down best shell that I see is the 3" Hevi-13 "Bronze" shell with 2 oz. of #6 shot. It works very well through either of those chokes in that gun.

I just got one of those myself late last fall. I put a scope on it and called William at Sumtoy and told him what distances I wanted to cover. Since I hunt mostly open pine forests I got the Sumtoy .675. That's the only choke I tried and got fantastic results with that choke and Hevi 13 3 1/2 #7 loads. Got 341 in 10" at 40 yards, and still had an open enough pattern at 25 for a reliable shot. William is great to work with and will stick with you till you get what you want, and the price is great. I've had mine for several years and run a PG .670 with 3.5 Hevi 7's & 6's.The 7's will average between 310-330 and the 6's 210-230.I use this gun for everything and never had a problem.

Sometimes folks shooting the shorter barreled guns don't see the high numbers in the patterns that are frequently discussed. That can many times be overcome by deep cleaning your barrel and finding the right choke and shell that works best in your gun.

The important thing of course for any turkey gun is that it throws turkey killing patterns and that we as shooters know how it shoots and how we shoot it. As long as we stay within whatever limitations the gun and our shooting abilities keep us, we'll do just fine.

the Truglo .670 SSX is a good one that won't break the bank
