No ones mentioned how they choose the type of bino's? Forget make for a second but I like a specific kind of optic for turkey hunting. Low light usage at first or last light is important.
Those numbvers mean something. I have a Nikon 8x42.
That means I see things 8 times mag but I have much better light gathering with the 42. Divide your mag by this number to get your brightness. Mine is 42/8= 5 plus.
The same 10x42 bino is magnified 10 times for longer range viewing but only has a brightness of 4 plus. That means at first light the gobbler on the limb I can see with mine instead of waiting for the sun to rise more. It may not be as close up but I can see it in low light.
That's what I looked for in a turkey hunting bino. To go up to the same brightness in a 10 mag bino means you need a 10x50 and now you have a big clumsy optic to carry around. By contrast an 8x26 is sure compact but unless it's full daylight that thing is useless at a brightness factor of only 3 plus.
