I was extremely lucky and won a Mossberg 935 last year, and I am going to use it as my backup/loaner gun.  Does anyone have any experience with these guns?  It's got the turkey barrel , so I'm wondering what experience people have with loads/chokes.  I tend to use hevi shot loads from Nitro in my SX3, has anyone shot them out of the 935.

Also, I'm a little puzzled as to why the 935 barrel isn't ported, but I have an 835 with a shorter barrel that is ported.

Thanks for any help you can give me.

My 935 is the grandslam series with 22" barrel with a PG .670 Hevi 3.5 #7's averages between 300-330 @40yds and the #6's will average 200-230.If you decide to use the Nitros stay with the 51013A 2.25oz  shells they will probably give you the best pattern with the PG choke.

Hey Bill,

First of all, congratulations. It's always good to win.

I have a 935 and mine is an excellent gun. It did require a good "deep cleaning" of the bore as it was coated very heavily with Cosmolene when I received it. I also found that the inside of the receiver and fire control unit were also pretty much grease filled. A thorough cleaning of everything really helps to insure trouble-free functioning.

Mine will also cycle 2.75" shells reliably, even though the manual says it may not.  I've run several hundreds of those shells through my gun.

I do not shoot Nitro shells so I have no experience or information to offer on them. I'm sure others here can help you with that.

I do shoot most of the other brands of commercially offered shotshells however and try to shoot all the brands of chokes in their different configurations.

My 935, like my 835 and SSi-ONE (all the same .775 over bored barrel) and just like most of those guns, likes chokes with about .100 - .105 of constriction and between a .670 and .675 exit diameter. Both the SSX and the Hevi-13 turkey chokes work exceptionally well in that gun, as does the Pure Gold.

Mine does well with both #6 and #7 Hevi-13 "Bronze" shells with 2 oz. of shot. All my guns prefer the 3" shells over the 3.5" shells and that works fine for me, since there's much less recoil and that allows me to get back on target quickly. My gun gives a slight edge to the #6 shot for pattern density.

The trigger on my gun is good as is the factory recoil pad. I do use a neoprene sleeve on the stock because it can slap your cheek pretty hard with any turkey loads. That thin, 1/4" neoprene sleeve helps more than might be imagined.

I'm very happy with my gun and hope you'll have the same experience with yours.

Thanks,
Clark

Thanks for the feedback.  It sounds like I need to do a deep cleaning and then head out to the patterning range and kill some paper with some different loads and chokes.  Is the barrel ported on either of your guns.

Mine is not ported.

Thanks,
