SBE II VS Single Shot

Dont  want this to happen to any SBE Turkey Hunters. Carried my kid hunting last spring. Teaching him safety first. We got out of truck walked to hunting location. Told him to load my old single shot turkey gun. After about 5 minutes of calling i remembered i did not load my new SBE. I eased bolt back and slid a shell in gun eased it back and pushed it hard to shut. (being quiet) About 20 minutes the biggest gobbler i have seen in some time was in front of me about 30 yards looking at decoys. Looking over at my son asleep.... Silent Gobbler came slipping in without a sound. Put bead on Turkey pulled trigger, CLICK... Waited for turkey to get behing tree several minutes later, pulled receiver back and pushed again to make sure it was closed.
Aimed... CLICK..... Not a very happer camper this time, ejected shell and slammed shell in as i watched TOM RUN. Lesson Learned. When you load a rotating bolt firearm, you must let it slam to rotate bolt. Otherwise firing pin will not hit shell. How i wished that day i had my cheap single shot in my hand.

All you have to do is rotate the bolt with your finger .    I learned that trick after watching my hunting buddy do the same thing you did.

Load the gun at the truck and let the bolt slam home.  

A loaded gun isn't unsafe....

My SBE2 failed me several times like that . Bumping the butt on the ground and catching brush/clothing on the bolt ! It burnt me on a longbeard and it almost became part of the landscape that day . Ever since then I call it my $1,500 POS !

That is known as the Benelli click which is caused by not letting the bolt slam.

I, too, drop a shell in to the open chamber, push the button and let 'er rip. 

Another lesson that I learned with the SBE II is don't wait until the last minute to take the safety off.  I had a bird take a huge loop around to avoid a wet spot in the woods and he came in at a spot where I would have been pointing my gun towards my hunting buddy.  There was no way I was going to do that, especially with my safety off.  So long story short, I kept the safety on until he moved in a safe direction and CLICK took the safety off.  Well, he did what all mature toms seem to have an uncanny ability to do and put a series of trees between he and I before I could get a good shot.

That was something i learn at the range when my sbe was new. Now everytime i get set up, i make sure i roll the bolt with my index finger. So far every click is a boom.

I've noticed that with my Montefeltro. It doesn't take a lot. It does need a little momentum to get it seated properly. I haven't had any problem during hunts though. I load as soon as I get out of the truck.

Just bought an M2.  Will this also happen to it, or only SBE?

Same justa 3" chamber, play with it at the range pay attention how it goes into battery , to make it just click and see what u have to do to prevent.

then, Benelli click problem solved -- I've got a regular stock and a pistol grip, before turkey season I switch from the regular stock to the pistol grip, and I also switch out the recoil springs, it takes about 10 minutes.

I know, there are those that say 'I wouldn't have a $1500 dollar gun that you switch springs on to go from a 1oz skeet load to a 2 1/4 oz turkey load'  -- to those I would say 'You buy what you want, I'll buy what I want'

A guy at our deer camp had it happen with his 308 semi. For some reason he was almost to his stand when he decided to load his gun. He slipped a shell in and closed the action quietly. A couple more steps and a big doe was standing there perfect 40 yard shot but CLICK.. Poor guy still hasnt shot a deer.

Been there done that, only with me it was a grey fox while predator hunting at night.
