So this is me calling, outside my house.  Didn't realize the road noise, which is 100 yds away, would be so loud.  But that is great, b/c I am testing out my new camera too.

So, turn up the volume and tell me what you think, about the calling.  I realize I got a little high there for a couple of times.  I had my mouth covered and was trying to be quiet, like a tree yelp.  Also, did a fly down while yelping, not necessarily the best sequence.

But comment on the sequence and the cadence and rhythm, PLEASE!!

Thanks, Ray

I wish we had some video from last year around this time. You are getting alot better. I really liked your cutting. Keep practicing.

It sound pretty good, Ray! I like that you don't try to call too hard, the soft clucks and contented yelps are killer!

My comments would be the yelping sequences seem just a little slow to me. I would also be careful of using my hand while calling. I just don't want you to spook birds by doing this in the woods. I know many contest callers do it, but I worry about getting dependent on it and doing it without realizing it and drawing attention to yourself in a hunting situation.

Overall, good stuff. I love to see people practicing and it takes some guts to share a video of your calling and ask for criticism. Don't worry about the little unintentional squeals, real turkeys do it. The camera works nicely!

I don't know why my hand moves.  I've only ever been to 1 contest.  Just don't know why.  I can't remember doing it in the woods last year, but when I practice it just seems to get a life of its own.

I had been told before that my yelps were a little fast so I intentionally tried to slow down a bit.

I get some more time with my instructor, TRKYHTR, Friday and Saturday at the convention and then practice and post up some more.  It is pretty fun, not ready to be on the camera, but fine with calling out of sight.   ;)

Get other opinions on the speed of your yelps as i am not an authority  Joe is a great mentor. He is part turkey. I will be in Nashville Fri, Sat, and Sun. Hope to meet you and Joe.

Absolutely, I'm not trying to put you down, just trying to give you my thinking when calling.  This will only be my 4th yr hunting and only my 2nd using a mouth call, so I need all the help I can get.

See you at the picture.

I agree the yelping is a little slow. Slow down the segments not the yelps, don't get in a hurry. Also when a turkey gets excited and cutts they usually yelp faster during the excited times. They don't get excited and then go mellow with yelps. It's coming together. You just need to start putting turkey into your calling.
