I bought a 1187 compact 20ga. last year for my daughter to use.  She is having trouble using the bead, she's 10, so I was thinking of putting a red dot of some type on it.  What would be your recommendation for sight and mount system?  Thanks

Sounds like you will need a b-square mount. I would get a Mueller red dot, and be good to go.

I put a B-square and a FF II on mine.  My 7 yr has done very well.  My 5 yr will give it a try this year.  With the B-square, the Mueller will be high.  I'd stick with a FF and get a FF III.  If you are going to go with the Mueller, which i shoot on my 835, then I'd have it drilled and tapped so the site will sit lower.  The B-square also lets you shoot under with the bead if needed.

My two boys have had good success with Bushnell red dot scopes. We have the ones with the fixed reticle, not the multi reticle or red/ green.

Excellent point, Ray. Didn't take the height of the Mueller into consideration.

Thanks guys.  I was hoping to get a FFIII, just wondering what mount system was best.  Keep the ideas coming!

I have the Fast Fire II mounted on a rail on one 870 and directly to the receiver on the other.  I personally like the one mounted directly to the receiver.  Its sits lower and makes it so easy to get on target without adjusting where your check goes.

Here is the 20 guage with the FFII mounted directly on receiver

12 gauge mounted on a rail

Hope this helps.

Schief - Did your 1187 come drilled and tapped?  It looks like a sportsman not a mag so I would guess not, but I have always been told that an 1187 isn't thick enough.  Thanks.
