I have had the forcing cone lengthened on several shotguns over the years. The first was a Browning O/U that I use for sporting clays. I had a lot of barrel work done on that gun and it all helped to produce more even patterns. Stu Wright did that work

The second was a Fox SxS. I had the forcing cones lengthened, the barrels cut and threaded for chokes and some additional work. I used it and still use it occasionally for turkey hunting. All that work helped. Stu Wright did that one as well.

Lastly, I had another forcing cone lengthened in a gun that I use strictly for turkey hunting. I found that I had a denser 10" center core pattern and a more even 20" fringe pattern after that work. Rob Roberts did that work.

I saw improvement in all 3 guns. I was pleasantly surprised to see that improvement in the barrel that only had the forcing cone lengthened. I only shoot Hevi-Shot in that barrel, so with 3 guns it improved patterns, whether I'm shooting lead or Hevi-Shot.

Thanks,
Clark

I've got two guns which I had the cone lengthened and two 870's that I'm having done tomorrow. My smith charges $35 for non-plated barrels and $45 for chrome plated barrels. The two guns that already have the cone lengthened throw a more consistent pattern then they did prior to lengthening. One of my guns is my go to duck and dove gun, Franchi 912, and my kill ratio increased after lengthening, that may be coincidence but I'm sure it didn't hurt.
