Just got off the phone with my bud in Ky. He shot a 12 pointer opening day. It was kinda skinny and his spine was pretty evident with his ribs showing too. No fat at all. It had a puncture it it lower rear leg that was oozing a yellow liquid that looked like jello. As he started skinning it out this yellow fluid continued to ooze from under the flesh and even dripped on the ground. He cut the rack off and the brain was full of the same stuff. Needless to say he disposed of the meat rather than eat it. Any ideas guys.

Sepsis?  Some other kinda blood infection, maybe?  How did it taste?   :D

Yeah. Definitely call fish and wildlife first chance he has!

If it even COULD be chronic wasting the state would probably go recover the carcass for testing.  Have him call right away.
It does sound like an infection but you can't be too careful.
Love to hunt the King of Spring!

Most likely the results from an infection related by a prior injury, drinking contaminated water or even a bite from a deer tick.  I shot a buck years ago that did the same thing.  When I shot the deer his antlers popped right off his head like flipping a coin off your thumb.  Turned out this buck had a previous injury that was badly infected which spread throughout his entire body.

+1--Seen same yellow ooze, prior injury.  Probably a vehicle if not obvious wound.

We were easing down the edge of a creek in Iowa back in '05 when a real nice buck stood up out of the grass. It was strange as he just stood up and looked at us instead of bolting as they usually do.  Dad shot him and the buck never moved, so I told him to shoot again as he'd missed.  The buck fell at the second shot.  Turned out that he hit him twice through the lungs.  When we walked up to the buck I started looking around for a dead animal as there was a horrible smell.  Then we noticed how poor the deer looked, all the bones showing etc.  He had an oozing wound from a fight and was just about to die when we put him out of his misery.  162" 12pt :D

Yep, infection.  I doubt chronic wasting disease as it is a neurologic disease and  would not produce the oozing, which is pus.   Just got that wound infected and became blood borne and without antibiotics, death occurs.  This is why it is not wise to let a "simple" skin infection go.
