Late Season 2010 Birds

Our late season was slow last year. We killed most of ours early and then after Christmas it tailed off. totally opposite of what usually happens. That is a nice black. Congrats.

They are Ruddies. There were 9 of them floating around a big sandbar in the river. We didnt shoot anything that morning and had been slow for a few days so we went scouting and found them loafing. They wouldnt fly off so I beached the boat, threw some extra shells in my wader pocket and we started wading with the dog in hip deep water towards them. They let us get to about 25 feet before they jumped up. We started blazing away, some would fall, other would dive, hit the sandbar and pop back up. They would get up and start to fly about a foot off the water and we would shoot again. When the smoke cleared 7 were floating and two were flying off. Ive seen them, but never had an opportunity to kill them before.  They are about as dumb as you get.
