mag blends

Ok we have been playing around with them some.  I have found that they don't like the same choke as the strait 6's or 7's.     Now what I see is they fall in the middle of the 6's and 7's in performance.    Is this something you all have run into or have I looked over something.

Seems to be the findings here too. I do notice in the mags that there more of the 5&6's vs the nitro triplex which has considerable smaller shot. In comparing, I like the .665 dia for the magnum blends in a remington 12 vs a .660 for 7's. I noticed a difference in loads too in the 2oz vs 2.25. The 3" 2oz is really efficient in delivering on target in my guns. Also the 3" seemed to work better in a wider range of chokes even though there is a loss of hits downrange

I seem to get good patterns with the Carlson's .690 choke with mag blends and #6 OR 7 h13 loads (note all 3 inch shells and I personally do not see any need for the 3 1/2 shells for my use). The mag blends and the .690 filled my fall tags last year and this year but I do not shoot for extreme high numbers in a 10 inch circle too.

Numbers are nice but as long as you are killing efficiently without wondering if you should pull the trigger at 40 then all is good.  Dont get too open of a pattern with 7's or you will have a lot of pellets in the breast meat. Thems hard on the toof.  I shoot a lot of 7's myself and if you shoot too low its unavoidable

Yes the shot is hard on the tooth and my shot finder does not do well on non metal and non lead shot so I use my fly tying forceps to extract as much shot as I can and I aim more for the neck/head now.

Every time I see someone mention .690-.685-.680, etc., I wonder if the person is shooting an 835.  

Although, .690 in an 870 would throw an awesome "hunting" pattern inside 40 yards.

Yes I am shooting the Mossberg 835 and so far it has met my expectations. One of my friends and hunting partners is now the proud owner of one too and will use it for goose hunting this year for the first time, should be interesting to see how he does.

I've shot them with two different guns and multiple chokes and the one rule I've found is that they generally are going to shoot better out of a more open choke.

For my Remington and Nova, .670 has been the ticket.
