Patterning help.....

I finally got out this past weekend to pattern my Stoeger M2000. I ordered a truglo SSX choke, to see how it would perform. When I got the choke, I had difficulty screwing the choke into the barrel (had to end up using a wrench.) After working it in and out a few times, it became a lot smoother.....this might come in to play later.

Well after shooting, I got 248 pellets in a 9.5" circle at 40 yds, shooting the 3" HEVI-13 #7's. The problem is that the POI is shooting low and to the left pretty significantly. I also shot the factory turkey choke and got 207 in a 9.5" circle, with the POI right with the POA. I shot several times at several distances and different shells. All with the same POI results.

My question is: Is there anything I can do to improve the POI of the SSX choke without having to buy a scope? I've thought about buying some sights but I don't know how easily the front sight on the Stoeger is removed. Do y'all think something was initially wrong with the choke, making it not sit right in the barrel? All other chokes screw in with ease.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

if i wasnt happy with the 200 out of factory choke[which is dead bird] i would try a different one than the ssx seems there is a problem with it. jmho

First of all, it is not uncommon for a turkey choke to not shoot to POA. That is why it is so important to pattern your gun. All chokes are not created equal. Five different chokes may very well give you five different POI's. I don't think that the threading in deal caused any harm, nor did it change your POI. The threads were probably dirty or maybe a touch oversized. As far as sights go, they are, in my humble opinion, necessary when the POI is different than the POA. Kentucky windage is a wonderful thing in a controlled situation. Most turkey situations are far from controlled. Most of the add on sights simply snap on the rib, and are fastened by screws, magnets, or tape. The removal of the bead, probably wouldn't come into play, as you can put the add-on sights behind the original bead. Both of the patterns that you gave will kill turkeys, but the SSX is 20% better. That is huge in the turkey hunting world. So, if it were my gun, I would go with the SSX, and find a set of sights to put on the gun. They do take some of the guess work out of shooting turkeys. I, personally shoot red dot scopes on my rigs, and love them to death. But, I guess that you could say that I am getting to be a little on the old side, and I need all the help I can get. Ask around the forum here, someone will get you set up with the best sights for your situation. Hope this helps..Mike

I have a set of truglo sights, but the front sight requires removal of the guns front sight which it has a bracket that then screws into the treads. I tried installing just the rear sights and just using the guns fiber optic front sight, but it was still shooting pretty high with the rear sights bottomed out.

Very common problem. I've seen it with several guns.

I bought a SX3 and 3 turkey chokes. All 3 chokes had different POIs, luckily one of the best chokes shot to the same POI as the bead.  Since I bought the gun for wing shooting, it worked out just fine.

The front bead will screw out of there as well. It shouldn't be to big of a deal..You need to raise that front sight some, to get the POI down. It is your only option. Unless you go to a scope..Mike

Make sure the SSX choke is for Benelli Mobil choke threads and not Benelli Crio threads.  The Stoeger 2000 takes the Mobil choke (Beretta) threaded tubes.

Also,you may want to check and make sure it is seating on the inside of the bbl. and not on the outside bore!!! Many of the SSX chokes will do this and will cause them to shoot off poa!!I haven't seen one yet
that fit correctly!!Also any extended choke should thread all the way in by hand easily as well!!

Please explain. How do I fix if this is the case?

Send it back would be best! Or you will have to have the shoulder turned back more and the diameter of the tube turn down some as well!
