sage grouse hunting

I just applied for a sage grouse hunt in california and I hope I get it.Does anyone know anything about them? Also does anyone know about hunting them in colorado? My dad has always want to hunt them since he was a young man and I'd like to find a state that doesnt need a draw if we dont get the hunt. But Im also willing to draw for the hunt.

Is it a draw hunt like california? And its on my dads bucket list, we've been watching Youtube vids all day of them big grouse.

I don't know their situation independently, but the greater SG is in trouble in some places.  USFWS has determined that it merits protection, but is low in the pecking order.  That is provocative to some enviro groups, and there is controversy and litigation out there.  The cause of the decline is in dispute, with at least one study indicating that nest predation by ravens and other critters is a big part of the problem.

I believe what is needed is some direct action on the ground by hunters to enhance habitat and perhaps some breeding and hatching in captivity to bolster stocks.  It has some different challenges that turkey stocks, but I'm still optimistic that conservation led by hunters will make a difference.

Ya I think Ca,Nv,south UT and CO all have declining populations. But from what I've been getting from ppl and the DNR for Wy,and MT there kinda fine for the time being. I've been llooking up alot of info and by all means they're introuble everywhere but alot less in WY and MT. Thats another reason why I want to get on it and hunt these thing before they're either gone or not allowed to be hunted.
