In Feb I bought a 500 20ga turkey model. The owners manual I felt wasn't clear about chokes for tss so I called Mossberg. The person I spoke to assured me if it didn't say lead only on choke it was ok for tss.
Well the choke broke. When I called to get new barrel they told me that choke wasn't rated for tss.
I'd have to shoot at least max full chokes.
I email to order a longer barrel. Was told they don't make 20ga in that length. I saw it online and they said oh yea I thought you meant 12 but the email said 20.
The barrel is on way so I call again to check about chokes and barrel being tss safe. I'm told don't use any factory chokes for tss. None are rated. This is all directly from Mossberg.
So I'm getting older and want to take a 20 ga nova and put an optic on it. It's wearing Williams bolt on sights now.
I ask if I can drill and thread receiver in email to benelli. After a week I haven't gotten response. I call today on coffee break and am referred to their tech dept. He says def no as the metal is too thin to reliably keep a sight on and that's why they don't do it themselves.
Within 15 minutes I get the original email returned. A guy from the tech dept tells me yes you can, gives me thread sizes and rail I should use. I tell him you guys just said no, he said that guy is maybe new or thought you meant M2.
Now not to make this any longer but I always say go to the company to get the right info. Idk if I should offer that advice anymore

Funny the benelli guy email me again. Said he works with the gunsmiths. It's def ok. He said I musta been talking to someone in corporate but they said I was being fwd to tech dept. The email guy sounds legit and I've got what he said in writing!

I would not hesitate to take that Nova to any reputable smith to have it drilled and tapped. It's been done safely and successfully many times over.
I usually get good consistent answers from Benelli.

Mossberg,  I usually get "Thats proprietary" any time I ask a technical question.

Did your barrel get damaged along with the choke or you just want a new barrel?

The choke broke at the threads pushing the damaged piece in. Choke couldn't come out. They say they're gonna send me new barrel and choke to replace that as well but I haven't seen it yet. Been few weeks

Gotta update this. The fella from Benelli  email me again this morn to make sure I understood he was speaking directly to the gunsmiths about this. Guess he understood my frustration. He def went out of his way to help. I'll give Benelli a positive

You can drill and tap the Nova.  Now I would not go with some big heavy scope on it.  The Small red dot type stuff works.
Tell us just how dead do you want them to be and we will see if we can get that for you.

Just a wee bit off topic.

I recently purchased a 410 from Henry. I had some questions for them about their stock choke that they couldn't answer. I thought this to be a little odd.

Then I took it a step further and asked a recommendation for a shell to shoot for turkey hunting. I already knew the direction I was going in and just out of curiosity, I wanted to hear his answer.

The individual gave me some bs AI answer about lead #5's. I respectfully asked if there were any turkey hunters working there. All emails were forwarded to a different rep who understood.

Bottom line, we really never know who we're talking with.

I do believe he wanted to help and he did by redirecting my questions.
