Last day bird

Hey team, I squeaked out one last gobbler on the last day. Not sure that it will be an upgrade to my other bird because he has broken the tips off of both spurs. I will update with more pictures and the story later.  It's been a busy weekend.

A quick few details on killing this gobbler...I got skunked on the first property and I was given permission to head down the road and try a new property that had recently been purchased. I make my way over there and climb up a hill and across a field. The field is tall wet grass and my pants are soaked, even behind my gaiters. I make it to an old road leading into the woods so I stop and sift call there, walk another fifty or so and stop and soft call again. At one of these stops I notice some crows making a racket down in the woods to my left. I made a mental note but didn't really take it seriously. I walk another fifty or so and softly yelp on my trumpet. About the time I decide to walk again a hen starts yelping back to me down in the woods to my left. The woods are fairly open and I'm worse may already be able to see me. I take a couple steps off the road and sit by the closest tree I can get to. She starts yelping again so I know she hasn't seen me now. I yelp back to her and it's probably maybe 1-2 minutes I can see her making her way to me. She ended up having 3-4 more hens behind her and she probably had a 6-7" beard. Unfortunately I just had my gun laying in my lap and my phone in my hand trying to get some video of these hens as they were making their way past me at maybe 20 yards away. I glance back to the left and my heart skips a beat as I see a big read head. There's a gobbler in full strut and he's trailing behind these hens by 20 yards or so. Now I'm sitting here with my phone in hand, a bunch of hens danger close and a gobbler heading right to me. The hens have pretty much gotten even and worked past me so I drop my phone and start pushing the safety off my gun. As soon as that gobbler got a straight line of vision to me he picked me out immediately. I don't know how he saw me and they didn't but I was impressed. He didn't know what I was but I could tell he didn't like it. He turned and took a step backwards and he went behind a big tree when he did this. I snapped my gun up to my shoulder and quickly pulled the trigger as soon as he cleared the tree. Everything happened so fast. I wasn't expecting that!  I will try not to make that mistake again about not having my gun ready. He had a nice beard that was just shy of 11" and he weighed 19.45. The tips of both of his spurs were broken off so this knocked him out if being an upgrade to my other bird. I think he was an older bird though. I don't know if he had been fighting or if was just the rocky terrain. It was a great way to end my turkey season this year. Good luck to the rest of you if anyone is still hunting.

Congratulations! I have had my share of last second birds and I have discovered this through the years. They taste better.

Congratulations. Chances are you're the "last man standing" bird-wise.

That's awesome, congrats. Wisconsin was a bust for me. The birds didn't want to play and with the weather it made it more tuff
