CVA scout .410

Anyone else hunting with the CVA scout 410? If so what is your choke and shell combo? What sight as well?

Just bought one today and to be honest, I'm very impressed.

Mine has the Jebs choke and is the compact model with the shims for LOP adjustments. As with all CVA scouts I've fooled with, very nice trigger. To me, this is the new standard for youth turkey guns. I have a Bushnell trs-25 on mine but will likely get a swampfox.

I bought one for my son several weeks ago.  Plan on transitioning him off of his heavily modified Stevens 301 to the scout next season.

I've messed around with most of the .410 single shot offerings currently on the market and the CVA is by far the most superior in terms of build quality.  The stocks fit with precision, the trigger is a clean 3lbs and the barrel is thicker than most of its competition.  The .390 Jebs XXfull choke that comes stock with the gun is really nice, too.

I replaced the stock base with a low profile Sumtoy mount and threw a Vortex Venom on top of it. 
Right now I've got Apex Ninja 9.5s, Apex PT410 9's and Foxtrot 9.5s to pattern through it this weekend.

Will report back with results but I'm pretty excited about this gun.

Shot my Scout last night but did not have a chance to get it to 40 yards.

35 yard results were as follows on clean bores:

Foxtrot Stoker 9.5s/ Jebs .380
206 in the 10"

Apex Ninja 9.5s/ Jebs .380
189

Planning on shooting this gun at 40 this weekend to finalize the zero and finalize patterning.  Will report back after results are in with the Foxtroxs, Ninjas and PT410 loads.

This thing is just nasty, I'm shooting the Jebs xx full choke it came with. I got my first .410 bird this year with it! If you haven't tried the Verdict .410 #9.5 load I would recommend you give it a shot.

I look at this gun every time I'm in a local store that keeps them in stock. It is one of the best built single shots I've seen in a long time. The only reason I have not purchased it is I'm a die hard weight weenie and there is no way I will buy a single shot 410 that weighs as much as my Franchi 20.  It is almost 2.5 lbs more than a Rossi Tuffy Turkey too. Great gun for those that do not mind the weight!  If they ever lighten it, I'll have one immediately.

Your point regarding weight is extremely valid.

I have several 20's (19" barreled M2 20 ga and another M2 20 compact) that both weigh less than the Scout.

I would not be in the .410 game if I didn't have a son who started killing turkeys at 5 and needs to transition off the chopped down 301 I set up for him to a gun with a longer LOP.

They could certainly make the barrels thinner on these guns and perhaps reduce the density of the plastic but it seems any attempt to skeletonize the .410s leads to diminished worksmanship and connection between the stocks and the frame/barrel.

I suspect I'll find myself carrying this gun a fair bit when I'm hunting close to home.  While its weight isn't obtrusive it sure ain't a Yildiz or a Stevens 301...

Still waiting to get the 40 yard patterns done with it.
