Southland Yellow Heart slate

Anyone on here have one? I just found one on eBay and picked it up. Curious on what sort of strikers you use on it? To me it sounds fairly flat, not much roll over if any with the strikers I've tried, such as Purple Heart, hickory, dymondwood, etc. the call looks good, excellent workmanship, but the finish feels tacky somewhat and the call has a weird looking soundboard. I can't tell if it's slate or what. I hope it's not fake or been damaged from sitting in a truck for years. Any help would be appreciated!
