"For You, O Lord, have delivered my soul from death" (Psalm 116:
.
A hitchhiker held a sign, "Anywhere but here." Apparently, he wanted to get away from that place -escape the circumstances that were causing his unhappiness. He thought he could get away from his problems and find happiness if he could just move to another location.
It's human nature to long to escape from whatever causes grief in our lives. But if we're honest, we have to admit that places and circumstances aren't the true causes of our unhappiness. The real cause is within us. It's sin and death that corrupt our nature.
We can't escape this by changing our residence or circumstances. In fact, on our own, we can't escape sin at all. Jesus works inside us so we can be content in whatever circumstances we find ourselves.
It's only by the rescuing grace of God, who sets us free from sin and gives us the new life in Jesus, that we have real deliverance. God gives us new life, and then He nourishes and sustains our new life through Jesus.
By God's grace, we have been given a life of faith that depends not our location or circumstances. We need an inner change. The sustenance of life in Christ is found in His Word, which does not whither nor fade when the scorching sun of life's hardships afflict us. True inner peace and confidence is a gift of God in Christ!
Place your life in God's promises, found in the Bible. Change from the inside!
