Local gun shop has a new mossberg 835 with a 20" barrel. Greenleaf, holosun. All that. Anyone have one? Any experiences with this particular gun

I have an older 835 I love but this one is enticing.

I'm an 835 guy.  It has been my primary gun for about 15 years now and she will FLAT out smoke a turkey's noggin.  IMO, it is one of the best patterning shotguns available.  My 835 is a 24" barrel and she puts up 300 plus with a .670 Pure Gold choke with 3 1/2" Hevi 7's in the pipe.  The 20" barrels should get similar results with chokes in the .670 to .676 range.  I've never shot TSS because I don't see a reason to with the results I get.

Some will say the forearms rattle, or they kick like a mule, but I've never had a problem with mine.  A good recoil pad will tame the recoil along with dialing down your shell to 2 3/4 or 3".

Great gun IMO if you can get it for a decent price.

I have a similar set up in the old 835 I have. I love mossbergs. I was just wondering if anyone had one with a 20" barrel. Man it's sweet and is 7lbs just wonder how it'd pattern with that little barrel

I probably killed my first 25 plus Tom's with 2 835s I had, back in the day when xx mag 2 1/4 oz lead were the deal.

It is a fine gun for gobblers but no way I would tote one now with the options in ammo for sub gauge guns!

I thought a couple years ago they made a snubbed-down version of the 835 with a pistol grip. The "tactical turkey" if I remember right. I talked to a fellow that had one, and he said it shot great but kicked pretty good. Mossy's have always had the reputation, though. I never thought they were that bad, myself.

Buy it and get an Indian Creek choke.
I've got a couple of them. Also 20ga and 410 turkey guns but I'm a ride or die Mossberg 12ga 3.5" shotgun toting up and down hills turkey hunter. I'm in my 50's and love the recoil pulling the trigger on gobblers. Makes me feel alive! That and the fact those 835/935 patterns are unparalleled

Indian Creek and Sumtoy chokes .675's in the classifieds.  Excellent for Mossy's.

I have an 835 w/ a 20" barrel an it is a great gun! They do kick some, and is why I don't use 3 1/2" shells. Mine is set up with a heavy choke 676 and I use LB 3" #5. A choke from whomever you buy from in that range usually produces a good pattern. Indian Creek is a good choice. Now I did test some Apex #9 3"TSS out of it using the same choke and got some great patterns at 27, 43 yards.  But, with that being said, you don't need to spend that kind of money on TSS to down a bird. My 835 is my go to turkey gun, but also throw in an Ithaca turkey slayer, and a 20g SA-20 now and then. Good luck to you.

My friend has one and absolutely loves it. I never hear him complain about distance or anything

I have an 835 with a 20" barrel and an Indian creek choke. I do typically shoot tss#9 in 3.5" and it patterns extremely well.
What I like about this load vs lbxr#5 is that I feel the patterns are great very close and at longer ranges. So when I get the 10-15 yard bird I don't have to worry about a golf ball pattern but tbat long bird pattern is amazing.

I do have to call out the recoil. I've tried 3" and it kicks so hard that the 3.5 isn't noticeably worse so I just use the 3.5.

I have tried to replace this gun but have yet to be able to outshoot it. So it keeps going with me.

I've also shot it with a Carlson somewhere in the 675 area best as I recall and it shot really well too. That choke like the lbxr better.
