I use mouth calls most of the time but when feel like it I use a slate Cody II. I am thinking about buying a new pot call. I do not want all the bling that I see most custom calls have it means nothing to me what it looks like.I prefer it to be just dull plain looking with no shine or color to spook them up and close encounters. all I want is one that sounds real. Most of the on the shelf mast production calls just do not have that right sound.  I work hard to make my money and want to get what I think Im pay for.  If I would buy a call from a custom call maker and it sounded nothing like what I thought it should and want to send it back and get my money back or get another one, Would most custom call makers work with me and find that sweat sound I prefer or would they just say You bought it, played with it, its yours?

ABSOLUTELY THEY WILL....as long as you ralize that they too, have put a lot of BLOOD SWEAT AND TEARS INTO THEIR WORK. AND THEY TOO, WORK HARD TO KEEP THEIR REPUTATION STANDING HIGH. This is why it is called custom work, I am not trying to be stand offish, but the truth is, if you want a decent custom made call, then you should realize that these guys and gals work hard to reach a level of quality that you just can't find at Cabellas or Walmart....as I myself have guaranteed my calls for 100% since day one over ten years ago, way back when they sounded as bad as me trying to play the fiddle....but it is HONESTY on both ends that makes a deal work. You just pick out any of these callmakers here and ask them about their work, ask to listen to a call over the phone, ask about their return policies...you won't be dissapointed...pappy

Oak pot finished in wax with slate over glass sounds like the ticket yer looking for.

Thanks to all that messaged me some insight .I know that was a pretty loaded question but I have never bought a custom call before and knew most on this sight have been down the same road on the mass production beginner stuff and now with years of experiences in the woods know they just do not cut it and now buy custom calls for that true sound.   Doepee - I am leaning towards something in glass but There is so many to choose from glass over glass or over cooper and on and on. Maybe there needs to be a call trade thread or something of sort where you could trade calls back and forth and play around with different calls and see what you like or want. that would be nice but there is always that one jackwagon that will not return someones call and so on . just a thought.

 Trading calls wouldn't be a bad idea but I would be hard pressed to send some of my good sounding glass calls out....Might not get them back.. As far as the glass calls go  Lon Trice makes a heck of a good sounding glass/glass... called in my bird this year with one... the dave halloran crystal mistrees, hooks bronze glass, Supreme pure death... and his strut buster....Perfections -- screamon deamon and kirks crystal  ---Halloran and perfections has both got sound files on their websites!!

I have in the past sent several calls to folks for them to try and pick out the one they wanted. I think most callmakers would do also. If you would be willing to pay for the calls up front, then once the calls are returned they could refund you the difference if you decided to keep any.
