I went to a gobbling turkey this morning and got setup fairly close to where he was strutting in a sunny spot in a gravel road. After I called to him and he started closing the distance (haven't seen him yet), I began to hear him drum, I could hear a little cluck mixed into the situation. I didn't know if it was a different turkey or not, but it was consistently right at the end of his drum. When I finally seen him, I could tell he was alone. He continued to drum and strut just out of range for probably 7-8 minutes, and every single time he drummed, he put a little soft cluck at the end. PFFT-VVVRROOOOOOMMMM-cluck. I probably heard this 50 times with the gobbler in sight. He didn't appear to be nervous or suspicious. Just a standard 2 year old eastern turkey. Anyone ever heard this before or have experience with it?
oh yeah, he came to about 35 yards and then rode home with me.
