Quote from: steelheadr on March 15, 2023, 04:39:56 PMMay is our turkey season. I am concerned about recoil from my 12 ga 3 1/2". I was wondering if any one out there had similar situation and what you did.

After having four detached retina surgeries over the years, I had to give up my heavy recoiling guns.

So I went to a .410.  First, with TSS, and then with lead. With TSS i'm good to 40 and lead I'm good to 25+.

I discovered something in the process, that anything larger than a .410 is simply overkill.

First and foremost, I hope the surgery went well and that you're healing and getting back to normal faster than expected. As far as 12ga 3.5", as others have said, there's no need to shoot that anymore. Period. You can shoot light loads in 2.75" out of your current gun with #9s and hammer turkeys with negligible recoil. If you want to move to a sub gauge, great. I think 20s are the new 10s with modern loads. But you can just easily lighten up what you're shooting out of that 12ga and have similar recoil as the 20 and better patterns than the 3.5".

Switch to subguage gun and tss and never look back or see a bruise on your shoulder again!! Good luck!!

Get a 410 or a suppressor for the 12 . Won't be able to shoot mags thru the silencerco however.
