Has anyone noticed that wood can offer its acoustical qualities to our ear when handled? I often hear it when handling well seasoned firewood. I heard it when I handled a piece of very curly maple piece firewood the other day. There is a special resonance given by special wood. Surely someone here has had the same experience.

Absolutely, I used to test and pick specific wood all the time when building acoustic guitars. One of the woods that seemed to have greatest variability was spruce for tops, some was dead as a cardboard, others rang like a bell. There were good and bad woods used for the other parts of a guitar too.
