Where exactly are you going? As a region we're talking about a place that covers 205,000 square miles stretched over 13 states. I can talk pretty confidently about the mountains of North Carolina as that's the only place I've ever hunted, but I don't know the first thing about Pennsylvania.

Well the first thing about Pa. is it's full of freaking Pennsylvanians,
just do a google search on "freaking Pennsylvanians", you'll probably want to hunt further south

Light boots with good ankle support can greatly reduce leg fatigue if you arent used to steep terrain. Also ridge tops are easier to travel than hollers. So if you break off the ridge after a bird and for whatever reason are ready to come out, it may be easier to go backup the side of the ridge to come out rather than just going down the holler. Typically the holler will be full of deadfall and can be a pain to navigate even if it looks easier at first.
