Okay so I would like to add a Smart Thermostat to my A/C unit. I only have the 4 wires. I have Cool and Heat. I've looked at a few things online but am not sure what they're telling me. I'm pretty handy doing things but don't want to screw anything up. Plus don't really want to rewire my house or A/C. Any help? Bubba

What color wires do you have? You should have yellow(cool), red(24v), blue(C), green(ID blower) and white(heat). Also is it a heat pump or gas furnace?

It's a heat pump and I don't have the C wire. This is looking at the back of the thermostat. When I get home I'll take a picture of the back and post it. Bubba

Many newer thermostats do not use a common (blue). It may be hooked up at unit. I prefer to use it.

I've got a nest thermostat and love it. It was very easy to install, just watched the YouTube video. Didn't need the jumper wire

You just need to make sure the thermostat does not require a common, many do not.

I have a question is the thermostat for a split system in a modular home with a switch you have to change with the change of seasons because on a standard set up in a home system you don't have enough wires showing for a heat pump

It has a switch for cool or heat. Bubba

The nest is what I want to get but they say it can have problems without the C wire hook up. I can get an add on to make it work which most likely what I'll have to do. Bubba
