Hunted 3 days last week to try and get my 2nd and last GA bird for the season. Had nasty thunderstorms roll through late afternoon before I hunted. First morning though I found 1 that was gobbling good and worked him from roost to about 9am. He hung up about 80yds out and eventually hooked up with a hen and that was it. Tried to roost him that evening and saw him but not sure where he ended up tucking in for the night. Next morning nothing.

Moved spots around 9am to a spot I found a fresh gobbler track day before and saw a gobbler around mid day. Finally heard one gobble at noon 2x to an owl that cranked up in a river swamp exactly where he was the day before. But, he never responded to me and didn't show up for the next hour I stayed there. It was HOT at 94 that day with barely any breeze. Tried to roost him that evening and saw where he eventually had walked down closed road I had been setup on. Never heard him again that evening or next morning.

Nasty storms were coming through shortly so I made it a short hunt and of course ran into a strutter with a hen on the way out walking down the middle of a well traveled main road through this hard hunted area. It was a nice middle finger from the GA gobblers that have kinda been kicking my @$$ since the season opened on April 9.

Definitely heard a lot less gobbling this year in GA than last and had fewer opportunities but they're still out there doing their thing. A few gobblers still finding hens but I saw very few hens and figure most are on nest and a I know some have already hatched out. Pretty windy past few days and much cooler so later this week could be really good to find a willing participant and not melt trying.

Good luck if you go!

Been the last 3 days morning and afternoon...finally heard one gobble this morning but couldn't get in front of him.  That is bird #6 I've heard in GA this entire season.  It's sad that I remember the days when their were so many gobbling you didn't know which one to hunt.  Now you just hope to hear one....

I didn't hear a bird all weekend this past weekend in Hancock County GA. The weekend before I called up a band of 6 Jake's, I gave them a pass.   I'm going to go again this next weekend but I am not to optimistic.

guesswho

Not a whole lot going on, but they ain't went nowhere.   This time of year it can be a flash hunt.  I'd recommend a slight adjustment in your calling, you probably know what I mean.   Anybody can kill them
early season, now is a little different game.   Good luck.
If I'm not back in five minutes, wait longer!

No gobbles in SE GA and doesn't help that they're raking straw in the pines.
