Do hens heads change color?

Had a bird coming in this morning, and heard a "searching putt," & I spotted the bright red head...  "She" went behind a large obstruction (continuing to putt) and popped out right in front of me...  I was expecting a tom or jake, but it was a hen, and she was riled up...

She started cutting and purring...  Although she was close, I angrily purred back, and she got hysterical...  Flying up and down, cutting, and doing a fighting purr.   I would call it "shadow boxing."

I have never seen a hen's head turn red, and upset as she was, I am wondering if it was her, or a jake or tom that took another route?

Oddly, not a gobble to be heard while she carried on like that for about 20 minutes...  I figured I'd have every tom in the area in my lap.
Did I do that?

Fly fishermen are born honest, but they get over it.

Sure can.

Yep.

It's much more subtle than the changes on a gobbler's head.   But they change.

The good Lord ain't made a gobbler I can't kill.  I just gotta be there at the right time.....  on the day he wants to die.
