Once again New Mexico is offering two Gould's turkey hunts as part of its "enhancement" program to raise funds for Gould's turkey management in the state. One of the hunts is auctioned at the NWTF convention and the other is given through a raffle. These are the only two permits given out in New Mexico each year for hunting Gould's turkeys.
The raffle hunt will be awarded on March 19th. Tickets for the raffle are $20 each and can be obtained by going to the NWTF/New Mexico website. The winning hunter will be able to hunt Gould's for any thirty days from April 1st through May 31st this spring. In addition, the hunter will receive two additional permits for the other subspecies found in New Mexico (Merriam's and Rio Grande) for the April 15th to May 10th season timeframe. The hunt can also be transferred or sold to another hunter, as well.
More information on the hunt is available on the website, but I can provide more detailed information about the hunt, if desired. All of the funds raised through the raffle and auction are earmarked for Gould's turkey management in NM.
