Ive been looking for a new set of boots to use for early season turkey and for deer hunting. I live in Wisconsin so the early turkey seasons can get pretty cold in the morning. I was thinking some type of waterproof insulated boot. Ive been looking at a couple pairs of insulated Danner boots. The 800g Vital, the 600g or 1000g Alsea and the 800g Element. If anyone has any experience with these or would recommend anything else I would appreciate it. Im looking to spend around 200. Also if anyone has used any of the cabelas brand boots like the Treadfast I was also looking at them.
Thanks

Happy

I have a pair of the Danner Vitals and they are ok. They don't seem to be quite to the quality of my Danner Pronghorns though. The vitals seem to be breaking down a bit quicker. Early season here in the mountains it usually between. 30 and 50 degrees in the morning and they are warm enough for a fellow that is moving as well as somewhat waterproof. I would recommend treating them though.

I have had good luck with my Lowa GTX uninsulated boots with a good merino wool sock the last couple years.  I treated them with Sno Seal and hunted in the snow last year in Nebraska with no issues along with deer hunting here in Michigan until the temps really got cold.

i'm in wisconsin too and the vitals are fine for me in colder temps. i run hot though.

i have bricks for feet and they fit pretty well. 2 years in and they still sometimes make my feet ache a bit but i'm hoping that's because they'll last a long long time

I am currently wearing either Dry Shod rubber boots or Merrell Moabs.  Yes nothing fancy but I just wear them out and buy more.

One of my personal current interests is nest predators and how a majority of hunters, where legal bait to the extent of chumming coons.  However once they get the predators concentrated they don't control them.

But I'm more about light weight so these fit the bill. Plus I move a lot with my style hunting. Feet tend to stay warm when you're moving.

not for cold weather but what is the best boot for these?

Thanks everyone for the input. I have some muck boots I use when its wet or I think im going to be going through water and some merrill shoes I wear when its dry and im going to be covering a lot of ground. Just looking for more of a insulated leather boot for sitting in stand and for the cold times in the early Wisconsin seasons.

In those conditions I wear Crispi Nevada insulated boots.

I wear Crispi Nevada insulated boots and Lowa Tibet insulated  in cold and wet conditions.  Expensive but  long lasting boots.

Russel Moccasin Turkey hunters, they aren't cheap but you can't beat the quality and fit.

I hunt where there are snakes of which scare the heck out of me.  For a couple of years I wore a pair of Danner snake books with gore-tex.  The boots were ok as far as comfort but didn't remain waterproof very long.  I only used them when it was dry in the mountains but stayed out of fields.  This year I intend to use snake gaiter (knee high) with a pair of Crispi Wyomings.  I have seen snakes, even rattlers, but as far as I know never struck at.  Can't be too safe.
