Stored in a good climate controlled space, forever. Or at least a lot longer than any of us can hope to live. I've heard of folks using a a real light coat of a furniture wax on the call when they put it up for the year, obviously nothing internal on the inside of the lid or on the rails or anything, but I've personally never done that. I usually just take a damp paper cloth and get all my chalk off the lid and rails, make sure that dries well, and leave them till next season. The chalk will draw and hold moisture. Even that's probably not a huge deal. I've sure played a couple old Lynch calls that weren't babied or taken care of that sounded good and were older than me.
