I hunt a lot of large public tracts of land, if I'm searching for a gobbler I take it slow. I've learned to slow down over the years and take my time. It's paid big dividends. It helps to know the area your hunting for the confidence in a place. Preseason scouting is a top priority of mine

I made a short hunt this am before work , I was rushed the whole time , and worked up a sweat .

I move as fast as I think the specific circumstances I am hunting in call for. In a certain situation, I might not move a hair in an hour. In others, I might cover hundreds of yards as fast as my two old legs will carry me. Over all, it is generally a combination of both in a lot of situations that I personally hunt under.

Then again, my "situation" is not necessarily comparable to the situations others here face in the places they hunt. 

Fact is, there are times to move slowly,...and there are times to move quickly.  "The Trick" is knowing when to do one or the other.  Unilaterally deciding that it is always best to move slowly,...or that it is always best to move quickly,...is a good way to end up not killing a gobbler that you could otherwise possibly have killed by using the right "speed" for the right circumstance.

Having said all of the above, in case of doubt,...move slowly...   

Carve all of this in the stock of your turkey gun and read it often.

Being a "Googan", I move according to my plan and the turkey's willingness to play his part. Early morning set ups can last a while as later afternoon hunts. I think anybody that thinks they have this game " figured out" , should definitely bottle that perfection and sell it to the rest of us. Providing you pay the shipping.  Al

My buddies used to make fun of me being the the blind less than 30 min. There is something that excites me about being able to put the old "Mohican Sneak" on a mature tom. Not that I don't get excited about shooting one from the blind...As I get older maybe an hour in the blind.lol. I let the woods tell me what I need to do. Not holding myself to one way of hunting birds.
