SNOW

BIG SNOW STORM brewing for the Black Hills! 2 plus feet Friday through Sunday. Sioux reservation should open around the first week of April.
This has me thinking, How many have experience hunting turkeys in the snow?

I have hunted in snow three times during opening week. All 3 times the turkey were gobbling furiously. One of the times it was historically cold for April and was 17 degrees with about 4-5 inches of snow, and took a 12 year old and we called in 4 Jake's . He killed his first turkey, and I would have thought we wasn't gonna hear a thing!

Shot my first Merriam in the snow a couple of years ago. Sat in the truck most of the morning and watched 6" fall. Once it stopped I went out and had one called up an hour later. This was in the Wyoming side of Black Hills. Side note, I've noticed on some snowy mornings the birds like to sit on the roost a little longer.

Used to hunt the Northwest corner of Illinois, back in the day season opened around April 5th, hunting in the snow many times and was typically cold!

Have not had success during the snow fall, but the birds were very active after the sun came out.

I think it was in 05. We were in Nebraska and it was snowing sideways. Pretty miserable for a couple days.
If I'm not back in five minutes, wait longer!

Sure have many many times , Including last year May 9th if my memory serves me correct. I don't do anything special, Turkeys in NY are used to snow so it's more of a big deal to the hunters rather than the turkeys. Dress warm is my only advice. 2 feet of snow is gonna be tough to move in so don't , go to a feeding area and let them come to you.

Shot a lot of turkeys in the snow in the Black Hill and MN. GREAT way to warm up getting excited when you see strut marks in the snow.

I have hunted them in the snow during the fall season here in Pa. but never in the spring. I have been out in the spring season when it felt cold enough to snow though!
