Wow What can I say other than THANK YOU LORD!!!! This season I was able to harvest 9 mature longbeards! I experienced things this season that I havent in the past, both good and bad. I enjoyed chasing one particular bird all season, I ended up shooting this bird with my bow, however I never found him.... :/ But thats part of the game. I learned some pretty cool stuff this season and tried to really tune into listening to Turkeys call Turkeys. Last year was my first year to move off to college, so dad and I had a friendly competition on who could kill the most turkeys, I ended up with 7 and he ended up with 6...Until he went to New Zeland and killed 8 birds in 3 days!!!! :0 However this year I found myself caught up in the numbers game, and i was too worried about beating him, than teaching others about this great sport of turkey hunting... But I was able to get a few people in the field! On the last saturday of the season in TN I was able to get a new turkey hunter in the field, and we doubled with one gun! His bird weighed 22 lbs with a 10.5in beard and 1.25in spurs! And mine had an 11.5 in beard and 1.25in spurs!! A great hunt to say the least!
We also took our annual trip to KS and NE, we had 4 people and 5 days to tag 4 birds per person. We ended up tagging a total of 14 birds out of a possible 16!! Hunting was the hardest we had ever seen out there. Hot temps and lots of hens were our problems. One day it got up to 97 degrees... almost unbearable. But all the sweat, cuts and bruises made for some good laughs and memories that will never be forgotten! As a conclusion to the season I would like to say that over the past two turkey season I have trusted God with them, Tried to give Him the glory through the good and bad, and i have been privileged enough to kill a total of 16 Toms!!
Hope everyone had an awesome season!
God Bless, Drew
