I think Granadillo and Honduras rosewood are two of his personal favorites hence the granadillo in the set. I've got the heavy hickory and the heavy cedar is in the mail. If I were picking three of his to start off with it'd likely be the heavy hickory, heavy cedar, and bullfrog (heavy frogwood). I don't find that I lose any of the soft playing with the weighted strikers but what I gain on the opposite end makes me prefer the heavies to the regular sticks ten fold.

I have his Granadillo and Heavy cedar. I really like the Granadillo but don't use the cedar as much. Everyone always talks about his Heavy Hickory. I need to order one from him.
