Deer hunting day pack/backpack

Any suggestions on a good deer hunting back pack? Need one with plenty of room and support. Does not have to be bladder compatible. Plenty of pockets is a plus. Camo is not important

I just use good camo backpack , with water bottle holder on each side .. got it at Bass Pro , several years ago. You don't need to spend a lot of money for one ...

Not sure if you have an Academy Sports near you but they have their own brand named Magellan. I have 4 of their bags for use between turkey and deer hunting. Plenty of room  good quality and a very affordable price.

 My favorite all day pack used to be made by gameplan gear. Tons of room and pockets. Pretty sure xop tree stands is selling the same bag rebranded. I know it's the bigger size if the 2 they sell. Pretty comfortable as well

Keep an eye at MidwayUSA, they run Badlands packs on sale for half price and you cannot be the quality nor lifetime guarantee of their packs.

I own a couple of Badlands (Superday and Diablo) and a Tenzing.


I've used the Tenzing for 10-12 years as a archery backpack and it has been great.

I set the Badlands packs up for normal rifle hunting (Diablo) and colder weather hunting (Superday)


It looks like Badlands has some sales on their site and for a smaller pack, Midway has the Badlands Eastern pack for 60 bucks. I am not sure what size pack you are looking for

Horn Hunter makes some awesome packs. My day pack has become something that I don't leave behind unless I'm only going out for a few hours. It's the Main Beam. Awesome pack. Used it to haul part of an elk out couple years ago too. I've been able to haul my gear in and a deer out with zero issues.

The Alps PF that SDA recommended appears to be a decent pack if you wanna save a few dollars though.

There are a lot of serviceable backpacks on the market, and unless you are someone that does a lot of pack-in trips where weight and durability might be important, there is really no reason to spend a ton of money on one of the so-called "high-end" packs.  You should seriously be considering what you plan on using the backpack for before purchasing one. 

If you are primarily just a "day-packer",...that is, carrying around the basic necessities needed for a day-long outing,...there is absolutely no need to carry around a heavy, full-sized backpack.  Get yourself an inexpensive, light-weight pack and go for it.  Many of the less-expansive packs available have lots of pockets and separate storage areas.

On the other hand, if you plan on trying to pack-out a big game animal,...and may be doing that from quite some distance from the road,...you should be a bit more selective in what you use for that.  I used to carry a full-sized "freighter" pack,...until I discovered the "expandable" pack.  If you are not familiar with those pack design, they are packs that are about the same size and weight as your average day-pack, but have a zippered compartment system that allows you to greatly expand the cargo/carry area of the pack, if needed. 

These can be used for your every-day "day-pack" type uses, but when you need to have that extra cargo space to carry out a deer-sized pile of meat, you just unzip the expandable area and you are ready to rock.  Or, if you decide you want to back-pack in to an area for a night or two, you can use the expandable area to carry all your stuff for that. 

Bottom line is if you want to cover all the potential "bases" you might use a pack for,...and you want to do that with a single pack,...I highly recommend looking at the expandable pack designs in whatever brand you choose.

I just bought a military ruck sack with frame. $80 from Ebay. Can put in everything you need and stuff you don't think you need. Lol plenty of room.

I bought a Drake non typical back pack on sale. I bought it to be my carry all for traveling and turkey hunting.  Used it today deer hunting and it is nice. Lots and lots of pockets. Gear straps on back and bottom.  They were $80 the other day which is what I paid for mine.  I think they retail at $140.

I run a mystery ranch pintler. Enough room for my day gear and carrys my sticks and stand no issues. Also has the internal meat shelf for when I shoot one back in the middle of nowhere and need to cut it up and carry it out. Very good quality pack.

I'm a little late to this perhaps but I've got a couple badlands packs, one sitting next to me now. Best packs I've ever used far as quality, lay out and design. I should mention there was a comment about not getting a high end pack. I'm not sure what high end meant there but most cheap packs last maybe a year before things start going, zippers break, etc. Stuff starts needing band aid repairs. My advice on this is gonna be I don't care what you spend money wise but it should be quality so you don't need 5 in 5 years. That's more expensive than 1 for many years

Another vote here for Badlands. I have a 2800 that I purchased in 2008 and it has held up to some pretty rough treatment
