Finally managed to tag one here at home in MD. Only ~53 but scores higher than the Merriams. Been hunting mainly on an Army base with a daily draw. Wasn't thrilled with
todays draw but on the upside we had no adjoining active areas. Split up at first just to listen along a road that is our boundary.  Heard a distant gobble at 530. 10 min and 3 gobbles later he had a buddy join the chorus. I texted my buddy to see if he had anything going on, and if not to come on down. This was the only thing we had going and despite the extreme distance and the fact that they were most likely on the other side of a swamp I said lets sit here and see what happens. When they flew down we could barely hear their gobbles but with some loud yelping could get them to answer. Soon it seemed like they were pacing the edge of the swamp but were answering my calls well. I really cranked things up to see if I could drag them over and it wasn't long before they were sounding closer. Unfortunately the traffic was picking up on the road, but seemed to come in flurries. Now the gobbles were booming and we knew they were on the road. I focused on one opening and Chris was on another. Somehow I only saw 1 bird coming into the woods. Chris told me to shoot if I had a shot and I did. The bird rolled and was trying to get away and we both clobbered it with a follow up. As I ran out to get the bird, the 2nd bird hadn't budged and flew off. While watching the first bird neither one of us saw what the other one did after the shots.
