What size blank would you typically use for making pot calls?

4"x4"x 1"thick?
4"round x 1" thick?

I normally get most of my domestic wood (walnut, maple, mesquite, etc) either purchased or cut in flat stock.  I then use a 4 1/4 hole saw to cut the blank.  This gives me a plus 4 inch blank.  I have tried several different ways but this serves me the best.  I have two different sized 4 jaw chucks that I use and this size is great for me.  Most of my calls are two sided with a second playing surface.

I have a big stock of boards I cut 4x4 blanks out of. My boards are 1 1/4 thick. I like extra board to work with in case I make a mistake. I cut my blanks into circles with the band saw then and screw them to the face plate of my lathe
